Mitchell (MJ) was born in New Orleans but moved to Texas after Hurricane Katrina. He met Jesus at 18, and begun serving his local church and community, where he developed a vision for church planting and the unreached. After graduating from Texas Tech, he served as a college pastor at Redeemer Church in Lubbock before moving to Austin in 2019 to lead the college ministry at The Austin Stone. In Austin, he met and married Hannah, a native Austinite with a passion for discipleship. She spent four years with Athletes in Action at UT and now serves as the Recovery Ministry Associate at The Austin Stone. In December 2024, they welcomed their son, Tre! The Johnsons love watching movies, trying new things, and making new friends! They are called to plant a multiplying church that brings the hope of Jesus to every high rise, alleyway, and dorm room in Downtown Austin.
