When God Connects the Details
A simple time of prayer led to an unexpected encounter that reminded one missional community just how personally God pursues people. Through a red hat, a pot of flowers, and faithful obedience, they witnessed the Lord’s love reach one woman at exactly the right moment.
Sometimes God uses the smallest details to lead us to the people He is pursuing. What began as a simple time of prayer became a powerful reminder that the Lord sees every person and uses His people, working together, to reach them.
A few weeks ago, our Goer Missional Community gathered with a few friends from outside our group to pray before heading out to share with people in our neighborhood. As we prayed, one person shared that they felt the Holy Spirit highlight the color red as something to look for. Another person mentioned seeing a pot of flowers.
We spent the next few hours knocking on doors and talking with people—just like what we see in Luke 10—but we did not see anything that matched what had been shared. Eventually, we wrapped up and headed home. Later that day, my roommate and I were on our way to HEB to pick up groceries. As we were driving out of our neighborhood, a woman suddenly walked in front of our car wearing a red beanie and holding a pot of flowers.
We looked at each other in disbelief. We immediately remembered what had been shared during prayer earlier that day, so we turned the car around to go talk to her. What made this moment even more meaningful was realizing that the person who sensed the word “red” from the Spirit was not even with us when we met the woman. Yet the Lord still used her as part of the story of pursuing this woman. It was a powerful reminder that we truly are one body. Even when we are not physically present in the same place, God can use each of us in different ways to reach the people He is chasing after.
God can use each of us in different ways to reach the people He is chasing after.
When we began talking with the woman, she shared that she had been experiencing severe pain and bleeding for six straight months. She had recently undergone surgery and was on her way back to work that day. It was a difficult and emotional moment for her, and she felt overwhelmed by what her body had been through.
We prayed over her for healing, but what stood out even more in that moment was the clear sense that Jesus was pursuing her. We knew without hesitation that He had words of love for her.
We shared the story of the bleeding woman in the Gospels, the woman who had suffered for years before reaching out to touch Jesus’ garment. We told her that just as Jesus saw that woman and cared deeply for her, He saw her too. We shared that we believed Jesus had sent us to that exact moment to remind her how much He loves her, how closely He sees her, and how deeply He desires to bring healing into her life.
Not only did that interaction leave her in tears, it left us in tears as well. Sometimes it takes a few brave conversations about Jesus before we are led to the one person the Lord has prepared to hear. Sometimes the path feels ordinary, and sometimes it feels uncertain. But every step of obedience matters, even when we cannot yet see the outcome. That day, God chose to use a red hat, a pot of flowers, and the prayers of multiple people to reach one woman. He used the faith of a community working together, each person playing a small part in a much bigger story.
It is such a gift to partner with the Lord and witness how faithfully and lovingly He pursues people. Moments like this remind me that the same God who pursued that woman is the same God who pursues me, and the same God who pursues you. You never know who needs to be reminded that they are seen, loved, and not forgotten. So keep praying, keep sharing, and keep being faithful.
