1 Corinthians

ABOUT THE SERIES

Throughout 1 Corinthians we’ll be covering several things as a church, particularly since it is a longer series. We’ll be covering the importance of unity, doctrine, holiness, maturity, growth, gospel-rootedness, The Well’s distinctives, and a slew of other things. We’re also going to be unveiling throughout the series different doctrinal truths for our church that will help us to understand theologically and practice functionally different things that we believe the Lord is calling and leading us into. This book touches every person regardless of where they may spiritually be. For the Christian there’s a lot of instruction for how to live our lives. This will be important as we journey throughout the book. A common theme we can ask ourselves is: “Is there any way that I need to live differently so that I don’t end up like the Corinthians?”

Unity: Utmost Importance

Join us this Sunday as we begin our new series in 1 Corinthians. Paul opens up his letter with a deeply important plea, one that may not seem like that big of a deal to our ears; unity. Division was threatening this young church. What was the remedy for this plague? It is simple, but deeply important, and what we should use to help us to unify around debated issues as well as the people of God. How do we understand what to unify around and die for? Why is this so important? Join us as we begin this series together.

Wisdom & Power: To the Nations

Join us this Sunday as we continue in our 1 Corinthians sermon series. After opening the letter to the young church pleading for the importance of unity, Paul jumps into the reality of the power and wisdom of the Cross to the world. Just as there were many reasons to divide as a church, there were also many distractions and tertiary subjects that were causing the Corinthians to take their eyes off the Cross and lose focus of the mission of God. This morning, the aim is to re-fix our gaze upon the Cross, let it transform us, and then live on mission to the nations.

Maturity: Meat, Not Milk

Join us as we continue in our 1 Corinthians sermon series, this week focusing on the importance of growing in maturity; not being children! Paul lays out some hard truths for the Corinthian church, that though they think they're spiritual, they're actually very childish in many ways. Their immaturity isn't just a neutral thing, they're actually harming their relationship and depth with God. There's way more of Jesus that can be had, and they're missing it due to their lack of growth. Implication: It is important that we grow! That we eat meat, not be stuck on milk. Join us as we figure out how to do this together.

Discipleship: Building God's House

Join us this week as we continue in 1 Corinthians, where Paul addresses the Corinthians’ division over human leaders and points them to a greater reality. Their focus on these divisions not only prevents them from growing closer to Christ but also hinders their ability to disciple others and advance the mission of the Kingdom. Discipleship is how God intends to use the church to push back darkness and fulfill His Kingdom purposes. The enemy, therefore, seeks to keep us distracted by unnecessary divisions. Paul not only confronts the root of their division but also lays out key discipleship truths that will protect them from further division and enable them to work together to make disciples and glorify Jesus.

Scripture: Guardrails for Growth and Disunity

Paul challenges the Corinthians—and us—to examine how we treat God’s Word, as it can either lead us toward selfish pride or gospel power. When we let culture or comparison define us, we drift from our true identity as servants of Christ. Pride creeps in when we resist God’s authority, twisting Scripture to fit our desires rather than letting it shape us, leaving us spiritually powerless. But true power comes when we humbly submit to God’s Word, allowing it to sustain us in trials, transform our lives, and fuel our witness. The big question is: when life cuts you, what do you bleed? The world’s empty words and promises—or the living, active Word of God? Our choice determines whether we walk in arrogance or in the Spirit’s strength.

Sin: A Dangerous Virus

Join us as we unpack and explore why the church must take sin seriously—not out of fear, but out of love. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul diagnoses the danger of unchecked sin in the body of Christ and prescribes a path forward through discipline. It’s not about shunning—it’s about healing. In this message, we’ll look at three reasons why Jesus commands this: to restore the sinner, to protect the church, and to represent Christ to the world. Our hope is that you’ll walk away with a clearer picture of what it means to be a people marked by grace and truth, deeply committed to one another’s good and to the holiness of God’s bride.

Easter: The Fulfillment of All Promises

Join us this Easter Sunday as we continue in our series in 1 Corinthians, this week looking at the resurrection of Jesus. Why is this of first importance? The Bible was quick to proclaim that Jesus is, literally, all and everything that we need. Is this true? And if so, what implication does it have on our lives? Join us this Sunday as we study the resurrection of Christ together.

Community: Radical, Sacrificial Surrender

Join us as we continue in our series in 1 Corinthians, this week looking at Paul's radical call for community. None of us pursues community with the sort of mindset Paul is commanding here in this portion of this letter. What would it look like if we did though? What do we do when there are disagreements and frustration, how are we to handle it? If we learn how to love one another the way Paul is commanding, it would change everything about our lives, and be a great witness to the world as well. It would be the type of community we're looking for. Join us as we tackle this tough passage together.

Body: The Temple of God

Join us this Sunday as we continue in 1 Corinthians. This week we look at Paul's theology of the body, and how it relates to sexual immorality. The Corinthians were steeped in sexuality, and it naturally bled into the church. Paul contends that what we do with our bodies matters; they impact our soul more than we realized. Paul encourages the Corinthians to realize that our body now belongs to the Lord, and this is a GOOD thing. Anything outside of what God commands only hurts us, and He wants our good and can bring us to freedom. Join us as we tackle this difficult passage together.

Marriage & Singleness : A Picture of Gospel Commitment

Join us this week as we continue our 1 Corinthians series, as we explore the beauty and diversity of marriage and singleness in the kingdom of God, and how God desires for both marrieds and singles to live as pictures of the gospel to the world around us.

Freedom: Putting Others First

Join us this Sunday as we continue in our series journeying through 1 Corinthians. This week we focus on Paul's radical statements about surrendering rights for others. While many may think this is a minor issue for them personally, there are few issues that seem to impact the American church like this one. We're very much the "knowers" in this section, and learning how to apply this section will create a freedom most Americans have never experienced, and life in our church that will be beautiful and dynamic. Join us as we study and apply this passage together.

Evangelism: Whatever It Takes

In a world where “truth” feels optional and evangelism can feel awkward or even offensive, what does it actually mean to reach people for Jesus? It’s a call to live with purpose, humility, and urgency — to love people enough to meet them where they are and point them to Jesus. This sermon is a reminder that the gospel is worth it. Let’s do whatever it takes.

Fulfillment: Seeing Others as More Significant

In this sermon, we’ll look at Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 10, where he challenges us to lay down our preferences—not just for peace, but for love. In a culture obsessed with personal freedom and self-expression, Paul’s words call us to something higher: valuing others above ourselves, even in the small, everyday decisions. What if the way we eat, speak, and live could actually help or hinder someone’s journey toward Jesus? This passage reminds us that spiritual maturity isn’t about how much we know, but how much we’re willing to consider others first—for the sake of the gospel and the glory of God.

Communion: An Invitation To the Table of Grace

In this sermon we continue our series through 1 Corinthians, focusing on communion. Paul shifts his focus from interpersonal and individual issues to corporate ones. Throughout the majority of the rest of the letter he is hitting on "Sunday" problems, because of how important the gathering is for us as Christians. The Corinthians were... trippin' with how they were taking communion, and because of this some of them were dying! Meaning, communion is probably far more spiritual than we realize. Why is this important, and how is the table one of the greatest acts of grace we can receive in a week? Join us as we study this passage together.

The Spirit: Source of Gifts

Join us this week as we continue our series in 1 Corinthians. We'll be exploring what the spiritual gifts are, do charismatic gifts exist today, and how God calls each of us to use our gifts to make much of Jesus and serve his church.

Valuable: The Importance of the Gifts

Paul invites the church to see themselves not as spectators in the Christian life, but as vital members of Christ’s Body—called, gifted, and sent. When we minimize our role or envy others’ gifts, we rob the Church of the unity and power God designed through diversity. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just dwell in the “super spiritual”—He fills every believer with gifts for the good of the whole. But these gifts aren’t just talents—they’re tools for mission. God awakens us, not to sit comfortably, but to serve courageously. Like dry bones filled with breath in Ezekiel’s vision, we are revived not just to live, but to rise as an army—called to build the Church, love the hurting, and push back darkness. The big question is: will you sit on your gifts, or step into your calling? The Church doesn’t just need the gifts of a few—it needs you.

Love: The Heart Behind the Gifts

This week we look at the famed chapter on love. This chapter can feel strange, being that Paul is in the middle of a discussion on spiritual gifts. And yet, this is one of the most important chapters in the Bible, particularly with regard to practicing the gifts. If churches or individuals have the most phenomenal gifts on earth, and yet do not apply this chapter, their works are nothing, and they themselves are even nothing! How can we learn to love, be it through gifts or even just through our lives, like this?

Empowered: The Power of the Gifts

This week we continue learning about the spiritual gifts, this week studying how a church can implement the manifestation, or the “charismatic” gifts within a body. Paul continues to show how the gifts of the Spirit are good, but that one must continue to submit those gifts to the love of Christ, and the order and the structure of the Spirit. What does it look like for a church to practice prophecy, tongues, or other gifts like these? If they’re for today, how can we walk in them with integrity?

Head Coverings: The Angels are Watching

As we continue in 1 Corinthians we hit an extremely awkward, and candidly hard passage. This passage has been used in lots of ways throughout church history, ironically, usually doing the exact opposite thing Paul is commanding. What does head coverings have to do with women's roles within the church, or with the angels? How do we apply difficult passages like this one in other parts of the Bible?

Women: Leading with Gospel Integrity

We continue in 1 Corinthians looking at the second of two passages regarding women in leadership within a local church (or at least supposedly about women in leadership!). Today, through another difficult passage, we see Paul's intensity towards the importance of corporate worship and the order that is needed to make sure the Lord is being rightly praised and received. For our context, if this passage has very little to do with women in leadership, where does that leave The Well on this issue?

Resurrection: Our Bodies Restored, Forever

Paul calls the church to remember that everything we believe hinges on the resurrection. If Jesus didn’t rise, our faith is empty, our sins still stick, and death still wins. But if He did—and He did—then everything changes. Because Jesus walked out of the tomb, our future isn’t decay but renewal. Our bodies won’t stay buried—they’ll be raised, restored, and made new. This hope isn’t wishful thinking—it’s the fuel that keeps us steadfast when life feels heavy, when death feels final, and when the world feels broken. So the real question is: are you living like Jesus rose from the dead?

Victory: Our Enemies Defeated, Forever

In this sermon we explore the hope and power of the resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15:35–58. Paul lifts our eyes beyond the grave, showing us that death is not the end but the doorway to glory. Like a seed that must die to bear fruit, our mortal bodies will be transformed into something imperishable and glorious. In this message, we’ll see how the resurrection reshapes the way we face death, live in the present, and surrender what needs to die in us today. Our hope is that you’ll walk away with renewed courage, knowing that because of Jesus’ victory, death has lost its sting and your labor in the Lord is never in vain.
