ABOUT THE SERIES
In this series, We will be journeying through the synoptic accounts (Matthew, Mark, Luke), but pulling out stories that only one of the individual authors discusses. The term “synoptic gospels” comes from the Greek word synopsis, meaning from the same vantage point, or same account. Matthew, Mark, and Luke share very similar accounts, as they’re all telling the same or very similar stories of Jesus, giving a general account of His life and why we should believe in Him and follow Him. However, within these gospels, there’s also uniqueness to each of them. At times there are stories told in only 1 of the 4 accounts, and while they’re rare, because the author took special notice of it, likely being unique or special to them, we want to take notice of it too. We’re going to take some of those stories and do our series on them, asking the question, “Why was this story special to this author, and what does this mean for us in Christ?”.

The Persistent Widow
In this sermon we look at a parable in Luke's gospel about a persistent widow. A woman in need continually seeks what she needs until it is answered. Jesus tells us we should be like the widow by consistently praying and not losing heart, two things very few of us would say that we regularly do! How do we become more like the widow?

The Unmerciful Servant
In this sermon we look at Matthew's gospel and study the parable of the unmerciful servant. Jesus tells a strong parable about the importance of forgiveness in the Christian's life. Forgiveness is an easy concept at a distance but really hard to employ, as the parable even expresses. Why is forgiveness important, and how do we go about imitating Christ in this way?

The Miraculous Catch
In this sermon, we take a look at Luke 5:1-11, The Miraculous Catch. We see Peter and a few other disciples receive the call to "catch men." Our hope for this message isn't to show what we should do as we fish for men but rather to learn what the heart and life of a fisher of men look like.

The Shrewd Manager
In this sermon, we look at the story of the shrewd manager. Of all of Jesus' parables, this seems to be the hardest one to understand. However, the message of it is challenging and powerful as we think about how we use our resources to serve God and make an eternal impact. We can do earthly things to make heavenly changes.

Laborers in the Vineyard
In this sermon we focus on the laborers in the vineyard. On the surface, this story seems confusing because we end up focusing on the wrong thing (like much of our life!). As we shift our gaze, we realize the "key" to life, to experiencing the "kingdom of heaven." And once we recognize this, it makes all of life worth living, knowing the reward that is coming. Our lives have meaning and purpose that is hard to even communicate as we realize the reward we'll be receiving.

The Pharisee & The Tax Collector
In this sermon, we focus on the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. Both go to the temple to pray, but only one leaves it justified. It is easy for us to assume we're righteous before God, not realizing many of us have Pharisaical tendencies in our hearts that prevent us from deeply receiving God's rich mercies.

Peter Walks on Water
In this sermon we study the story of Peter walking on water. Peter, though having enough faith to get out of the boat and walk on water, didn't have enough faith to keep him there! What does it look like to truly have faith in Jesus, and how does this prepare us for the storms and trials in our lives?

Jesus Heals a Boy with an Unclean Spirit
In this sermon we talk about why it's important to keep our eyes on Christ as a church, how we keep our eyes on Christ, and what we can believe about Jesus when are spiritually afflicted.

Jesus Raises a Widow's Son
In this sermon we dive into the healing of a widow’s son. This story seems obscure in nature, but is loaded with truth for our life. As Jesus shows up (randomly) into a seemingly impossible situation, He brings life where there was death. Similarly, as we allow Jesus to show up in our lives, He can bring this same measure of life if we’d allow Him. The question is, are we looking for a miracle only, or are we looking for God?

The Wise Men
In this sermon we focus on a unique Christmas story from Matthew. As we study the "wise men" (magi), Matthew is asking a simple but important question throughout this text, "Who is your King?" The answer to this dictates the joy we experience in our life. Even if we proclaim Christ as King, is He truly? How can we better enthrone Him in our lives, that we might receive joy abundant?

Shepherds & Shepherds
In this special Christmas sermon, we study the most unique story in human history, the birth of the Son of God! Though likely a familiar story, each reading should be unique to our souls simply because of the reality of what we're reading. So join us as we meditate on the wonder of God becoming man.
