Nehemiah

ABOUT THE SERIES

Nehemiah is a book filled with future hope, and the beginning preparation of a nation making a way for that hope to be realized. Nehemiah is an exceptional leader, one of the most dynamic in the entire Bible, and he is leading the nation to do more than they could have thought possible. Because of their sacrificial efforts, they pave the way for Israel becoming a nation again, and ultimately pave the way for the Messiah to come, to deliver the world from their sins. Throughout Nehemiah you see the creating, rebuilding, restoring, preparing, or forming of many things. You see leaders being formed and built, cities being resorted and reestablished, worship being renewed and revived, exiles finding refuge, people finding purpose, and a vision for the future that extends beyond what any of them could have dreamed.

Gaining Vision

Among many things, Nehemiah is a book about understanding and then completing God's call that He has on your life. In the first chapter, Nehemiah gains clear vision from God and is spurred to action. We believe that God wants to speak to us as well and give us vision for our own personal lives. This week we'll look at how we can better hear God's voice, understand His call and vision in our lives, and begin to pray that God would reveal this, and allow us to walk in it.

Moving Towards Vision

In this sermon, we see Nehemiah, filled with vision from God, begin to move towards accomplishing this vision, despite all of the seemingly significant roadblocks ahead of him. Nehemiah lays out a fairly clear pattern for how to move when God does speak. We believe that God wants to speak to us, and wants to give us vision. We also believe He has given us vision as a church and wants us to move forward with it! Join us as we learn how we can find vision, understand our purpose and calling, and move towards this vision when God does speak.

Sacrifices of Many

As we've been thinking about vision, oftentimes we tend to think about vision in isolation, in a box, how it impacts us and us only. However, God didn't save us to be on an island; He saved us into community! He most often gives vision to the community at large and calls our vision to both bless that broader community, as well as be blessed by that community's vision. In other words, we're meant to do this together! As God continues to speak to you, do you know, and can you see how it marries with the bigger vision of others around you? Join us as we not only seek to fight for community but fight with our community, for the bigger vision and glory of God.

Generous Justice

In this sermon, we look at the issue of justice. As Nehemiah continues to carry out his vision from God, an issue of suffering and oppression arose. Rather than ignore the issue, reject the issue, or remove himself from the issue and blame others, Nehemiah stepped in to enact justice. We too should be people who care about and who are passionate about justice! Our visions from God will innately include justice because our God is a God of justice. In His redemption and restoration of humanity, a major piece of this plan is executing justice. Join us as we understand how our vision can include justice, and why the issue of justice should be something close to all of our hearts.

Overcoming Opposition

In this sermon, we continue in the book of Nehemiah and learn about overcoming opposition. If it feels like this is a repeated theme from a few weeks ago, you'd be right! It is necessary for us to understand this as God’s people. When great work is being done, there’s always opposition to it. In this chapter, we see Nehemiah being tempted to defend himself, to break the law, to listen to distraction versus the voice and mission of God.

Renewal & Dedication

Join us this Sunday for our last Guided Gathering as we continue in the book of Nehemiah. As we are nearing the finish of the book, we see the Israelites renewing their dedication to the Lord, celebrating what He has done, and charging forward with vision. As we think about this year, this feels like a timely topic. Through trial, frustration, isolation, and confusion, or victory, joy, and personal growth, we're called by God to see His hand through it all, renew our vows before Him, dedicate the work He's done back to Him, and charge forward with an even greater mission for His sake. Join us this Sunday as we continue to find vision from God individually, and as a church, and move forward in greater work!

Fight For Worship

Join us today as we conclude the book of Nehemiah. Nehemiah ends on what seems to be a sour note! And yet, when we dive a little deeper, we realize the warning for us as believers. If we are to gain and walk in vision, we have to realize there will always be enemies that try to steal this vision from us. How do we protect this vision? Nehemiah concludes by giving us the answers to this.
