Jonah
Jonah: God’s Faithful Pursuit
ABOUT THE SERIES
This evangelistic sermon series dives deep into the story of Jonah to reveal God’s relentless heart—for the world, for our cities, and for each individual. As we follow Jonah’s journey, we’ll confront our own struggles with obedience, comfort, and calling, and ask hard questions about how we respond to God’s grace. Do we care more about our convenience than the salvation of others? Who is our personal Nineveh? Through this series, we’ll be challenged to reach the lost, serve our city, and surrender our desires—just as Jesus did for us. Despite our rebellion, whether passive or purposeful, God still pursues us with grace and invites us to be part of His redemptive mission.

Rebel Prophet
We, like Jonah can often purposefully or passively rebel against God’s Word in our life, particularly when it comes to hard things (like evangelism). How can we respond more like the sailors, and less like Jonah? Who is our personal Nineveh?

Prayerful Prophet
In this sermon, Jonah prays a “heartfelt” prayer, and yet shows no true repentance later (chapter 4). Really, though he finds the presence of God, he doesn’t allow it to ultimate change him. Despite the prayer (which is mostly him quoting Scripture!) there isn’t much true change. This is a deeply personal, and application heavy sermon to how we respond to God’s presence and grace.

Following the Presence of God
In this sermon we see unreal repentance from a pathetically preached message! God’s will is going to be accomplished, and yet we still see the hardness of Jonah’s heart here (and will be violently exposed next week). Though passive, God uses him to bring salvation to a city. At times, even if we do the bare minimum, we can see God move still.

Pouting Prophet
In this sermon, we see Jonah's heart is completely exposed. He cares more about his comfort than he does the salvation of the people. This rings true for most of us, unfortunately. We’re much more like Jonah than we’d like to admit. And yet, there’s grace fro rebels like us, and God still wants to use us to accomplish great things. God isn’t only concerned with redeeming the city, He’s also concerned with redeeming the individual, and will do what it takes (storms, whales, worms) to save us!

A Prophet's Proper Response
As we conclude our Jonah series, We’ll talk about who authored the book (Jonah), and the importance of understanding when God is using us in our brokenness.
