ABOUT THE SERIES

Throughout this series we’ll be able to touch briefly on important topics (e.g., spiritual disciplines) while also forming deep spiritual thoughts. As we focus on these topics they should sharpen the way we relate with God. They should create fresh pictures of things we already know (and hopefully deepen them!) or introduce concepts we rarely think about, while giving us practical ways to carry this out.

Sermons in this series

Comforter/Counselor

In this sermon, we focus on how to cultivate a deeper relationship with God as Counselor and Comforter. What does it look like to receive counsel from God? Do we know how to do this, and how needed it is for our soul? Do we get human counseling first, or do we get the Lord?

Husband

In this sermon, we look at the idea that Jesus is our Divine Husband. Why would God give us this as a name of His? One of the things that is true is that God desires intimacy with His creation. So how do we form intimacy with God? In this sermon, we study the importance of the Word of God in helping us to cultivate depth with Him.

Vine

In this sermon, we look at Jesus as our Vine. In this Text, Jesus is clear that we must abide in Him in order to have or produce any true spiritual good. Part of our abiding is by practicing different means of grace to grow in Him. In this sermon, we study the "Corporate" disciplines, as we seek to find a greater harvest of Jesus this fall.

God is Light

In this sermon, we discuss how Light reflects many redemptive truths about God. Jesus is the light of the world! Isa. 9:2 says that before Christ we were walking in darkness, but Christ, who is light, appears that we might see (be saved), and He wants this light to shine on everyone. The imagery of Christ as our light has many clear implications. He shows us the path of life, He illuminates wisdom for us, we see clearly when Jesus is shining in our hearts and through our eyes. Often we still stumble around in a sense of darkness though because we don’t come to Christ as our illuminator. In this sermon, we discuss the implications of this as to cultivate greater depth and worship of God.

Jesus as Friend

In this sermon, we look at Jesus as Friend. Jesus being our friend is something that seems very basic, but is likely virtually unexperienced by us in our relationship with God. As a culture we tend to deeply undervalue friendships and therefore have a hard time seeing the importance of Jesus being our friend. However if we can receive and understand this, it'd likely change so much in our relationship with Jesus.

Christ as King

In this sermon, we look at Jesus as our King. As we enter into another American election cycle politics can be something that is confusing, divisive... and without us realizing it, is can promise shadow-Saviors. There is much idolatry or apathy around American politics. Christ would offer us a different approach, and a better way. If we can recognize Jesus as King, it changes the way we see earth rulers here below.

God as Father

What if the most powerful name for God was also the simplest? In this sermon, we explore the radical idea that God is “Our Father,” as revealed by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Why do so many of us struggle to embrace this truth? We dive into Matthew 6 to uncover how our earthly experiences and the false promises of money distort our view of God’s fatherly care. Discover how He is not just a provider, but a patient, loving Father who carries our burdens and invites us to find peace in His kingdom. This message could change everything about how you see God!

God as Creator and Master

In this sermon we look at God as our Creator and Master. Working from the understanding of Master more in terms of employer (as it was somewhat used in ancient context), what does it mean to be employed by God, to serve Him? How do we do this well? Additionally, how can we do what God calls us to do? If God created us like Him, and recreates us in Christ to be used by Him, how can we serve Him well and find joy in it? Simply asked, what is our calling and how do we do it?

Nov . 03 . 2024

Jesus as Lord

In this sermon, we explore what it means to call Jesus Lord and joyfully obey him with our lives.
