Summary

The Student Ministry Leader role helps The Well Austin accomplish its mission and vision by equipping our students (6th-12th grade) to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and sharing their faith with their peers all over the city of Austin, specifically those that live in the Eastside of Austin and attend Eastside Early College Start High School. We will be raising up a diverse group of future college leaders, covenant members, residents, church planters, and future leaders of Churches as we plant 100 churches nationally and 100 internationally. This individual possesses the gift of leadership, administration, has solid experience (2+ years) working with families, students, and volunteers (Teammates) in a growing church context, values and protects diversity, and displays excellent interpersonal skills to build quality relationships within a team. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, a proactive and anticipatory nature, and a call specifically to children/family ministry.

Outcomes And Results

  1. The Student Ministry mission and vision align with the vision of The Well, specifically helping equip parents, preteens, and teens to exalt Jesus, be and reproduce disciples, and send and be sent into the world for the glory of God.

  5. Lay leaders fully own ‘key aspects’ of the Student Ministry through their empowerment to do the work of the ministry. (Eph. 4:11-12)

Major Responsibilities And Activities:

  1. Four primary buckets of responsibility: students (30% of time); parents (15% of time); reaching new students (35% of time); student ministry events (10% of time); helping with church-wide projects as needed (10% of time).
  2. Conceptualize all material for Sunday and mid-week ministry.
  3. Provide practical administrative oversight including, but not limited to, printing, mailing, purchasing supplies, reconciling expense reports, and maintaining inventory lists and volunteer, family, and student profiles within the church management platform.
  4. Ensure the proper onboarding of new volunteers. This includes vetting submitted serving applications, running background checks, completing sexual abuse awareness training, etc.
  5. Process reimbursements for volunteers, as needed.
  6. Maintain a strategy for reaching and integrating new preteens, teens, and families.
  7. Partner with Kids Director to build connections with 5th graders and their parents, to aid in the transition of 5th to 6th grade.Maintain a strategy for reaching and integrating new preteens, teens, and families.
  8. Proactively reach new students by regular on campus presence at Eastside High School and partnerships with other student outreach organizations in Austin.
  9. Oversight of all student summer events, camps, retreats, and assist Kids Director with the Kids Ministry Bible Camp.
  10. Lead the overall volunteer recruiting strategies so that all teams are filled with passionate and equipped leaders.
  11. Attend and participate in all staff meetings, events, and trainings.
  12. Create an environment that upholds the Team Covenant and encourages camaraderie among teammates.
  13. Seek and be open to feedback to identify areas of opportunity and proactively take steps to improve in those areas.
  14. Provide pastoral care for Student Ministry teammates, and seek out support from Ministry Manager when needed.
  15. Oversee all aspects of parent communication such as, newsletters, instagram, etc.
  16. Have a school presence by going to school lunches in the area.
  17. Lead out in emotional and spiritual health in all areas of ministry.
  18. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Ministry Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Qualifications

  1. Above all, has a personal affection for Jesus that is growing, sincere, and contagious.
  2. Believes deeply in the mission of God, the mission of the Church, and the mission and vision of The Well.
  3. Has a sincere love for ALL people far from God and a deep desire to see them enter into the Family of God.
  4. 2+ years of experience working with families within the context of a growing and vibrant church.
  5. 2+ years of experience overseeing volunteer teams.
  6. Minimum of 2 years experience working with preteens/teens.
  7. Demonstrated ability to understand and relate to preteens/teens and their families with a passion to see familial growth in their faith.
  8. Proven ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and administratively gifted.
  9. Ability to disciple individuals within the church, thereby reproducing leaders who in turn will make disciples.
  10. A clear call to middle school/ high school/family ministry.

  1. Actively participating in the life of The Well by attending weekly gatherings, upholding the core beliefs and values, joining a community group, and living out the mission of the Well.
  2. Theologically aligns with the core beliefs of The Well and becomes a church member within 3 months of hire (if not already a member).
  3. Adhering to the Team Covenant and sees themselves as an owner of the mission, vision, values The Well upholds.
  4. Works well with a team and desires to be a family first, before an organization.
